Fierce Freedom releases an online safety video series

Fierce Freedom, an organisation based in western Wisconsin focuses primarily on human trafficking.  However, as the Covid-19 pandemic has forced families indoors, the organisation has published an online safety video series to help parents with the types of issues they may be facing in terms of technology and the internet.

The online safety video series covers:

The different apps that parents should be aware of

This video focuses on three of the most popular social media apps: Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok.  An overview of why the videos are popular is provided, as well as the potential dangers of each app and advice on the safety settings that can be applied in each case.

Online gaming

Information is presented concerning the potential dangers within video games, as well as specific advice on Discord and Fortnite, two of the most popular gaming platforms.

Online grooming

This video explores the different strategies employed by paedophiles to exploit and target children.  These include grooming and revenge pornography.

Tips for parents

The final video in the series focuses on the steps parents can take to establish boundaries at home.  It contains information from Amanda Casey, a Survivor Advocate.

“ The message is not that social media is evil or that you’re a bad parent for letting your child use it because no, that’s not realistic… We just want to have a conversation with parents and allow them to learn and have kind of a comprehensive look at each of those topics. ” Cat Jacoby, Public Relations and Program Coordinator, Fierce Freedom
