For an undisclosed sum, South African EdTech company Snapplify has acquired Onnie Media as part of its expansion plan

South African EdTech company Snapplify provides an online marketplace for educational resources and services.  Some of its notable products include an eBook library, a data analytics package, a community portal and a free e-Reader application.  Founded in 2012, Snapplify now operates in several countries including the US, Kenya and the Netherlands.  Last year, it received an investment of $2 million from Knife Capital to expand its operations.

The acquisition of Onnie Media will allow Snapplify to develop its digital publishing business and contact base of over 50,000 teachers.  Onnie Media started as a teacher run blog in 2011 and has since developed into a media hub, resource marketplace and job portal.

Snapplify is currently delivering its e-Learning platform to public schools throughout the Gauteng province, as part of a national-level intervention project.  It is also working with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) to provide reading support to students in the region.

Towards the end of January, Snapplify launched a Teacher Benefits programme for educators.  Part of the Engage platform, the service offers teachers the opportunity to download free and discounted eBooks and access promotional discounts and giveaways.

Through winning the Reimagine Education Overall EdTech Award 2019, Snapplify has received recognition from the global EdTech industry.  In 2019, it was also a finalist in the Global Education StartUps Awards and the EdTechX Global Awards.  More recently, it was a finalist in the Bett Innovator of the Year category.
